With more than 25 years of international experience in the telecommunications, IT and IT Services industries, Markus is a leader who cherishes the opportunity of transformational and turn-around assignments. Markus was appointed President of Nokia Greater China and CEO of Nokia Shanghai Bell in 2019 to lead Nokia’s operations in this region across sales, service, operations, supply chain and R&D starting from 2019. This is Markus’ second stint in China: From 2010 to 2014, he served as Head of Customer Operations and, later, President of Nokia Greater China (previously NSN), during which time he helped to establish Nokia as the leading non-Chinese supplier in the region. Before returning to China, Markus was Senior Vice President, Nokia Europe from 2015 to 2018, leading Nokia’s operations in the region. He also chaired the board of DIGITALEUROPE from 2016 to 2020, Europe’s largest industry association for the digital sector. Earlier leadership positions include roles in global sales, strategy, marketing, portfolio management, business unit leadership and key account management. Markus holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. In 2014, he received the China Friendship Award, the highest honor for foreign nationals working in China.
